2023 was an amazing season for Daniel. If you look at some of the stats for the season, they suggest that Daniel was indeed a better goalkeeper than 2023 Goalkeeper of the Year winner Roman Burki. Which is saying something because Roman Burki was incredibly impressive. However, injuries limited Daniel and his time between the sticks to just 28 games as opposed to 42 for Burki.
I was somewhat shocked to see Daniel’s jersey available on Fanatics. Daniel had a phenomenal year and his name was being praised and shouted from the rooftops by many pundits in the league. Okay, mostly only David Gass, Tom Bogert, Matt Doyle, and Andrew Weibe on Extratime. But still, saying it’s more brings more credence to the argument. But I digress, the dude is good, and if you’re not sure, just watch a game man.
As I have mentioned before, I play Goalkeeper. I know the position isn’t glamorous nor does it garner near as much attention as those yucky strikers and goal scorers. And most people don’t understand the position, they see a goal is let in and think, “Wow, that was the Goalkeepers fault.” Somehow we’re supposed to stop every single shot, it’s a thankless position. So maybe I shouldn’t have been surprised to see his jersey sitting their on Fanatics, but either way I gobbled it up as quickly as I could.
Unsurprisingly, goalkeeper jerseys are very plain. It’s a total bummer but it is what it is.

Nothing amazing here but I do appreciate the fine details. It would have been easy to just leave the back yellow, but the assymetric diamonds on the back really elevate this jersey. And the maroon and yellow combo is really crisp. I wouldn’t have thought it would work if you said it out loud, but seeing it, it’s a great combo. I wish the numbers and letter would have been maroon instead of black personally, but that’s me.

I love the autograph on this one. Daniel signed this one nice and big. Like nearly as large as the numbers big, it’s awesome. And most importantly, it’s legible. A rare thing these days that makes it a real thing of beauty.

I found it quite interesting that on the bottom of the jersey on the back was the AeroReady logo. I have no idea if this is on all San Jose jerseys, or on all 2023 goalkeeper jerseys. Both of these are firsts so far this year for me. I’ll update this if I found out anymore information.

I love the diamonds again, but the two clashing colors of red REALLY bother me. One or the other dudes.

Pretty standard goalkeeper jersey. Different than outfield players, the crest and stars are sewn own for durability. Screen printed stripes. The Adidas logo appears screen printed but is actually that tactile rubber feeling material.

Overall, not too much to say about this kit. This kit is very unimaginative and the clashing reds almost make you want to gouge out your eyes. But I didn’t buy this kit for the look, to be able to get a game used jersey of one of the best goalkeepers in the league last year was a real treat. I am incredibly excited to see what 2024 holds in store for Daniel and to see him compete for Goalkeeper of the Year with a hopefully full season of work.

2023 Jackson Yueill San Jose Earthquakes Home jersey
I really do love these kits. Having the jagged lines that represent the seismic waves of an earthquake is just so darn cool. I had hoped to get Espinozas jersey of this design, but alas somewhat beat me to it by just an hour or so.
2023 seems to be a disappointing season for Jackson based on the surface numbers. 0 goals and just 1 assist. But it’s important to remember how awful San Jose really were in 2023. But digging into his stats, I found something quite interesting. And this is just how good of a passer Jackson was that season. He is in the 90th percentile on attempted passes as well as progressive passes (moving the game forward and not passing sideways/backwards). And 86% in pass completion percentage. Which is quite a telling stat when paired with the former two stats. Usually, passing the ball upfield, aka progressive passes, have a much lower completion rate, as the defense is always trying to stop them. But Jackson still managed to be amongst the top midfielders in passes and completion all while moving the game forward!

2023 San Jose Earthquakes Cristian Espinoza Gray Away kit

Funnily enough, in 2023 Espinoza had told us he would give us his jersey after the game. San Jose dominated the game in the first half. Then in the second half, San Jose was played off the pitch and all the players were incredibly mad after blowing a lead. No one looked up when leaving the field. Both Espinoza and Cade Cowell didn’t give us their kits as they had promised. But that’s part of the game, we have no hard feelings towards that. They were focused on their job and disappointed in how they performed, there was no malice in it.
So still being a big fan of Cristian, I decided to buy his shirt from Fanatics. I have no idea if it is, but I like to think it is the same kit Cristian was going to give us and I got it in the end anyway.

2017 Chris Wondolowski San Jose Earthquakes Home kit worn on October 22, 2017 against Minnesota United
It goes without saying that Wondo is one of the best players to ever play in the league. He finished his career top of the scoring chart with 171 career goals over his 16 season in MLS. I was beyond blessed to be able to add the jersey of this legend to my collection.
The all time leading MLS goal scorer Chris Wondolowksi wore this jersey agains Minnesota United on 10/22/2017. Chris scored a goal in the 55th minute of the game as well.
